Cable & Wireless (West Indies) Ltd has signed a contract for the construction and maintenance of the Eastern Caribbean Fibre System at a cost of $60m: the cable will run from the British Virgin Islands in the north to Trinidad in the south; partners on the cable are France Telecom, Barbados External Telecommunications, Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada Telecommunications and St Kitts and Nevis Telecommunications in Guadelopue; Cable & Wireless will start out with a 44.8% stake.
