Cable & Wireless Plc shares were a disorderly market yesterday morning after the Financial Times reported that the Bulgarian company in which it holds a 49% stake has won a licence to provide a national paging service – but placed the story in a bigger country: the Bulgarian committee of post and telecommunications awarded the licence to the Radio Telecommunications Co joint mobile telecommunications service venture, in which Bulgarian Telecommunications Co and Radio Electronic Systems are shareholders; Radio Telecommunications also gave L M Ericsson Telefon AB an order for an NMT450i mobile telephone system, the first of its kind to go into the country – the network is planned to be in operation by the end of this year; in its first phase will cover all of Sofia, with immediate expansion to include Plovdiv, the road from Plovdiv to Sofia, and Varna and Burgas on the Black Sea.
