CABLE & WIRELESS INVEST UKP17.5M IN MERCURY

By CBR Staff Writer

The rapid growth of its Mercury Communications Ltd subsidiary has meant that Cable & Wireless Plc is to invest around UKP17.5m in establishing a high-tech telecommunications training centre at the Westwood Business Park in Coventry: subject to the permission of Coventry City Council, the training centre is scheduled to be open in the second half of 1992 and will mean the closure of Cable’s Porthcurno College in Wales, which trains some 1,500 people a year; Cable says it will offer a significant number of Porthcurno’s 70 training staff the chance to be sent to Coventry.
