The Japanese government has formally notified its US counterpart that it will grant two international telecommunications licences, Agence France Presse reports from Tokyo. The decision means that the Cable & Wireless-C Itoh led International Digital Communications Planning Inc consortium that wants to lay its own fibre optic cable under the Pacific, and International Telecommunications Japan Inc, which is planning to lease lines from the present monopoly carrier Kokusai Denshin Denwa will both get licences.
