Cable & Wireless Communications Plc has won a contract to provide managed dial up service to America Online Inc in the UK. The contract will involve C&WC catering for more than 450,000 of AOL’s UK customers, terminating their calls on modems furnished by the operator, rather than AOL. Neither company disclosed the value of the deal, but it is rumored to be worth tens of millions of pounds. C&WC is currently spending around 400m pounds on adding ATM and SDH capabilities to its national network.
