Cable and Wireless Plc has announced a joint venture Down Under on value-added network services with Kerry Packer’s Consolidated Press Holdings Ltd, which will develop and market services, subject to government approval: C&W will acquire a 50% stake worth UKP7.1m in the joint venture, and marketing will initially be in Australia although the venture hopes to sell the services world-wide eventually; Consolidated made its networking debut on Wednesday with a dial-up service offering 1,300 recorded messages – including a compulsory cricket score up-date, of course.
