Now that Japan’s Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications has accepted the idea of a new independent fibre optic cable across the Pacific, Cable & Wireless Plc has won most of what it was demanding on behalf of its International Data Communications consortium, but it is still holding out against the idea of merging IDC with the rival ITJ consortium, which would see its 20% holding diluted to less than 10%.
