Several cable groups are said to be studying the possibility of making a bid for Mercury if the merger between Cable & Wireless Plc and British Telecommunications Plc goes aheadreports Reuter. One industry source named 20% shareholder BCE Inc, parent of Bell Cablemedia Plc, as rounding up backers for a bid, but a group of two or three other cable operators are said to be considering making a separate joint bid.
