Computer Associates International Inc announced Tuesday that it has worked out a deal with the US Justice Department for approval of its pending $3.5bn acquisition of Platinum Technology Inc. CA said that after a thorough review of the merger, taking into account hundreds of the two company’s products, the deal with the DOJ will only require the sale of a few Platinum mainframe products.

Although the company declined to specify the products in question, it said the sale must be carried out under the supervision of a court-appointed trustee. CA claims that roughly 76.9 million Platinum shares have been tendered in connection with the $29.25 per share offer announced March 29. The company has roughly 102 million shares outstanding. They closed Tuesday at $26, down $0.1875 on the day.
