Computer Associates International Inc wants to add intelligence to its Unicenter TNG systems management tool, and to that end has acquired neural network company AI Ware Inc on undisclosed terms. AI is a 20-person outfit based in Beechwood, Ohio, and CA thinks its technology will help it to add prediction and troubleshooting capabilities to Unicenter, warning users of problems before they happen. It will work on a percentage risk basis, giving users an idea of what sort of chances they have of their hard disk crashing, for instance. AI’s technology will be embedded within Unicenter, giving CA an edge over competitors such as Tivoli Systems Inc, it believes. The technology will be applied to its Jasmine database as well. While the buy does not represent a signifcant cash outlay for Computer Associates, it is viewed as strategic for the Islandia, New York company. Neural technology will be able to solve many of the conventional problems that occur in systems management today, says CA, which decided it would make more sense to buy the technology rather than try to develop it itself, having no expertise in that field. AI Ware, which was established in 1985, will retain its offices in Ohio, but in time it will be absorbed into Computer Associates.
