CA JOINS WITH LEGEND OF CHINA FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Computer Associates International Inc is developing software applications for the Chinese market in a joint venture with the Legend Group, the Beijing, China-based IT hardware, software and services corporation. CA and Legend will be equal partners in Legend CA, to be based in Shengshen, and provide initial funding of $3.5m. CA will provide the software technology and financial and technical application development capabilities and Legend the distribution channels and market knowledge. Legend CA will develop three software applications, the first of which, Wen Deng, will be an object application development tool. CA earlier this year brought out a Chinese version of Jasmine, its object orientated database. As part of the agreement Legend System Integration Co will become a distributor for CA’s Unicenter TNG in China, which was released in a Mandarin-version at the start of 1998, Legend Technology Development Co will distribute CA’s Enterprise and Workgroup Edition products and Unicenter TNG will be bundled with Legend’s servers.
