Computer Associates International Inc is now offering a version of its Unicenter TNG systems management software designed specifically to manage SAP AG R/3 applications across distributed Unix, NT, OS/2, AS/400 and mainframe distributed systems. Until now each SAP R/3 instance required its own management console; Unicenter TNG is said to provide a single point of control. It has been integrated with the CCMS management application SAP ships with R/3, enabling Unicenter TNG to schedule tasks across multiple R/3 systems and non-R/3 systems. So lucrative is the market for manufacturing and resource planning applications being sold by the likes of SAP, Baan Co NV and PeopleSoft Inc, that any software house worth its salt is now hard at work coding application-specific products designed for users of these programs. Difference in this case, CA claims, is that SAP will be doing joint marketing with it. Unicenter TNG for SAP/R/3 requires SAP R/3 3.0c or higher and supports NT on Intel or Alpha, IBM, HP, Sun and DEC Unixes.
