Computer Associates International Inc reported second quarter net income up 13.7% at $334.46m compared with $293.92m, including interest, tax and acquisition charges in both periods, on revenue which increased 32% to $1.6bn from $1.21bn. Earnings per share were $0.60 an penny better than First Call’s average of analysts’ estimates of $0.59.
CA says revenue from sales on its OS/390 management software rose 19% year over year on the back of increased spending on servers used for internet, e-business and ERP infrastructure. Revenue from sales of its software on Unix, NT and other distributed operating systems accelerated further at 35% years over year to reach $816m in the quarter. Services revenue climbed 109% to $140m. Adjusted for currency fluctuations international revenue would have been $523, up 18%, while North America revenue climbed 42%.
