CA cautious on further Open Source

Computer Associates International Inc is taking a cautious approach to open-sourcing further products, in the wake of releasing the Ingres database.

By CBR Staff Writer

CA Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Yogesh Gupta told ComputerWire the company preferred to build a community around Ingres, rather than dump products into the open source community.

During a recent interview, Gupta said: We want to build a community around Ingress.

Gupta claimed tens of thousands of Ingres downloads have been made since the code became available during the first week of August, while hundreds of developers have submitted changes.

Commenting on plans by CA to submit other products to the community, Gupta said: [I] wouldn’t want to predict what the next product will be… I’d like to see what we can do with it. He noted that building a community around Ingres wouldn’t happen over night.
