An announcement from Computer Associates International Inc saying development of the Ingres database and tools technology will remain in Alameda, California and manufacturing software development will remain in Santa Clara and Santa Rosa and that it intends to invest heavily to bring them up to speed hid the fact that according to the San Francisco Chronicle, there have been mass resignations at Ingres after Computer Associates officials went through the establishment with a hit list of people to be fired, and told anyone else that wanted to go to quit now if they wanted the redundancy package on offer; the paper reckons that a large majority of the 250 engineers at Ingres are gone, and it may have lost half its 600 engineers worldwide, with mass resignations in London and Singapore, and perhaps as much as 75% of Ingres employees fired or resigned; Computer Associates was following the policy it has adopted many times after acquisitions and the message from the Islandia, New York firm is business as usual.
