C ITOH ELECTRONICS TO ENTER DISK TOP PUBLISHING BUSINESS

By CBR Staff Writer

The sale of its California computer factory (CI No 835) in no way heralds the departure of trading giant C Itoh & Co from the computer business, and its C Itoh Electronics unit is hatching plans to enter the desktop publishing systems business, initially in Europe: starting in April, it plans to offer a laser printer from Konica which can run its own C Itoh-developed Page Description Language, claimed to be compatible with Adobe’s Postscript, but faster; the controller boards will be manufactured by Konica, and Itoh is looking for licences on the language – it is talking to four firms about the English version, which will be followed by a Japanese version with two standard fonts, in April.
