C-Cube Microsystems Inc, the Milpitas, California-based digital video chip company, has acquired the communication technologies it feels it needs to offer a complete range of set-top box products. It has bought what it describes as communications technology, patents and personnel from TV/Com International, part of the Dutch Mindport Group. C-Cube now says the purchase gives it strategic communications technologies for interactive cable and satellite digital set-top boxes and enables it to supply customers entertainment network solutions with open architecture products compliant with the European digital video broadcasting standard DVB. C-Cube is currently making modest progress with net profits last year up 4.3% at $46.2m on revenues that rose 4.3% to $351.7m.
