BYPS Communications, the Telepoint cordless phone consortium of Barclays, Philips and Shell yesterday announced a UKP30m deal with GEC Plessey Communications for an initial 7,000 base stations to be installed nationwide, with handsets to be produced to demand. The net, which will be up by spring of 1990 and incorporate the 7,000 stations by the end of that year, will use the Common Air Interface Standard and fom mid-1991 will allow calls to be made through the base stations of other operators – page five.
