ICL Plc may steal the thunder of both Texas Instruments Inc and Sun Microsystems Inc: on February 5 it is to announce two Viking machines in its DRS 6000 line – likely to be the first Vking boxes to be built – as part of a range of new Sparc systems. They are the deskside single-board 460 CPU2+, said to do 55 MIPS, and high-end 664 CPU2+, with a maximum four-processor configuration, which will go to an estimated 240 MIPS. Delivery won’t be until later in the year.
