The Business Communication Systems division of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp reports an extremely successful 1987, with sales of $800m against a target of $640m: its success was largely down to the growth of private networks using high-speed digital leased lines; NTT trying to build up a strong position ahead of the market entry of the new private carriers, and sales were helped by a cut of 11.5% in charges for high-speed digital lines which took effect in August; last year, the company grew its workforce to 700 froim 150, and this year it will increase the number of sales engineers in training with the aim of growing its business to $8,000m a year with the advent of Integrated Services Digital Networking at the end of March 1988.
