Qualcomm had asked Bush to overturn a June 7 ruling by the US International Trade Commission to bar import of new-model phones with its 3G silicon. Qualcomm claims that none of Broadcom’s patent claims were valid or infringed upon by Qualcomm.
Following Bush’s veto to overturn the ITC’s ruling, Qualcomm said it would appeal the ITC’s decision to the federal courts.
We will pursue all legal and technical options available to us to minimize the impact of the ITC order on consumers, our customers and the entire wireless industry, said Qualcomm chief executive Paul Jacobs, in a statement.
Broadcom also issued a statement, saying it was gratified by the presidential office’s decision not to intervene in the case.
