Burroughs – yes it is still Burroughs in Japan, at least until April – has announced the new top-end A17 mainframe, which is pitched at the IBM 3090/600E, in Japan: the local company looks to sell 20 of the machines, particularly in finance and manufacturing, where Burroughs has substantial installed base; the A17F rents for $200,000 a month.
