IBM has announced that Bunnings, a home improvement and outdoor living retailer in Australia and New Zealand, has selected its POWER7 technology to support plans for business growth across the region.
The company said that its new system will support Bunnings’ 281 locations across Australia and New Zealand and is expected to save and improve their data centre operational efficiencies by reducing power usage and improving cooling, reducing server footprint, and increasing operational productivity.
With the new Power 780 servers, Bunnings can load balance between each server, ensuring scheduled and unscheduled maintenance can be conducted with no impact to business.
In addition, Bunnings has selected a second IBM XIV Storage System to support its secondary data centre storage environment and to enhance its business resilience architecture.
IBM Australia client executive Garry D’Orazio said the company along with its business partner, Datacom, will assist Bunnings in working on their strategic plan to help Bunnings move to 24/7 processing by fast-tracking the POWER7 environment.
IBM said that the implementation of its systems for Bunnings is expected to be fully completed in early 2011.
