BULL RE-COMMITS TO IBM POWERPC

By CBR Staff Writer

As anticipated (CI No 3,435) Bull SA and IBM Corp will stand up and renew their PowerPC vows tomorrow, pledging to continue joint development of technology as well as the deal under which Bull OEMs IBM’s RS/6000 AIX servers as its Escala line, including the 64-bit processors. Bull sources said there would also be noises of support for IBM’s porting of AIX to Merced. That notion did not rest at all easy with IBM. Big Blue will want to blow its own trumpet when the time comes to go public with the plan – and it isn’t tomorrow. Having hitched its Unix future to IBM once again, Bull will turn to other matters on October 22; Windows NT. In an event in London it will underline its commitment to sing from the same hymn sheet as Intel, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft.
