In what Compagnie des Machines Bull SA is touting as a major attack on IBM Corp’s AIX market, well it obviously won’t be attacking its NT-on PowerPC market since IBM ditched that last year (CI No 3,065), Bull has launched a new generation of its Escala and Sagister servers and extended its Open Enterprise Software Suite. It says these will deliver new levels of price performance, for that read ‘half the price of IBM’, and says its extended enterprise software suite will run on any AIX system including IBM’s SP2. It’s also launching internet systems called InstantNet. Both the Escala and Sagister feature the new PowerPC 604e 200Mhz processor, and are available immediately. The Escala E series goes from 8,370 pounds; the Powercluster range from 36,700 pounds and the Sagister from 52,650 pounds. US pricing was not available
