European Community competition commissioner Karel Van Miert says the French government has put the Commission into an impossible situation, in not forwarding the details of Bull’s restructuring plan and of the apportionment of the $445m that it handed over to the French computer last February: inn an interview with Le Monde, Van Miert declared, We have entered into a completely illegal situation – the French government has promised us a restructuration plan for months now, but nothing has come of it, except that now we have complaints from competing companies in other member countries; this puts the Commission in an impossible situation; the Commission will not be able to accept further payments and, if they occur, it will have to end up in the European Court of Justice he said.
