Bull HN Information Systems Inc has bought rights to use IBM Corp’s Escon fibre optic channel technology. The agreement is expected to develop into an OEM contract according to Electronic News, so that Bull can supply fibre-optic technology to its users, and the two companies are collaborating to make the technology compatible with Bull’s proprietary architecture. It will be at least 18 months before products are ready for market, and initially, Bull is to use Escon to connect remotely installed disk drives, and eventually, for hooking up printers, terminals and other peripherals.
