BULL ANNOUNCES DPS 7/617-SE, 717-SE, 817-SE AND 917-SE

By CBR Staff Writer

As well as the new minis, Bull in France yesterday announced new mid-range models in the locally-developed DPS 7 small mainframe family. The new DPS 7/617-SE, 717-SE and 817-SE machines replace the same model numbers, and there is a new 917-SE that delivers 60% more performance than the 817-SE. The new machines, offering 15% to 30% better price-performance than their predecessors, are available as field-upgrades, and the family provides a four-to-one power range from top to bottom. They run v3 of the GCOS 7 operating system. Typical price is $730,000 for a 717-SE with 8Mb main memory, 5Gb on disk, two tape drives, 1,200 lpm printer, and DN7130 communications processor with eight synchronous lines, rising to $1.3m for an 817-SE with 16Mb and 10Gb on disk. The first three models are set for November and the 917-SE for the summer of 1988.
