The Eynsham, Oxfordshire-based Securicor Telecoms Ltd subsidiary of Securicor Communications Ltd has acquired Interconnect Ltd from Venture Link for an undisclosed sum in a deal completed last Thursday. The two will be integrated together as a joint business called Securicor Telecoms under managing director Howard Parkinson, who was previously heading Interconnect. Interconnect is in the business of the design, development and manufacture of telecommunications systems, having a turnover of around UKP4m last time and employing 32 people. The new business has a combined revenue of UKP10m. Interconnect launched the Interconnect 3000 Open System PABX last year into the US market and is currently awaiting the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications nod for the UK. It is a digital hybrid system that as well as functioning as an ordinary PABX can also integrate with computer networks and is currently marketed by Securicor Telecoms. It supports 212 ports and offers access to Computer Supported Telephony Applications software written for Novell Inc NetWare environments. The newly merged subsidiary now looks to develop its business into this area of computer network and telephone systems integration, or Open Systems Telephony. It envisages the Interconnect 3000 becoming the ‘hub’ of office communications for both data and voice in the future when Integrated Service Digital Network, Aynchronous Transfer Mode, Bandwidth on Demand, videoconferencing and other multimedia applications become more integral to business. Securicor Communications also acquired ISDN protocol conversion specialist 3Net Ltd back in August (CI No 2,244).
