British Telecommunications Plc has said that its Frame Relay fast packet service will be launched in the UK and other European countries by the end of the month. The news came as part of announcement that its US service has started operation in 160 cities. The US offering provides initial customer access at speeds of 56Kbps or 64Kbps and supports a variety of protocols including TCP/IP, IPX, XNS, DECNet and AppleTalk. A bridge-router is used to link to the Frame Relay service: one side is connected to the customer’s local net, the other to the BT Tymnet network via a digital leased line.
