Spare a thought, as the holidays approach, for those suffering economic deprivation – and in particular Sir Peter Bonfield, the boss of British Telecommunications Plc. Poor Sir Peter stands to lose a 500,000 pound bonus that was dependent on a successful outcome of the take-over of MCI Corp. But help may be at hand. The Daily Telegraph reports that the BT remuneration committee may still vote Sir Peter a special bonus in recognition of the profit the company made on the failed deal. So there may be some smiles, after all, in the Bonfield household this year.
