BT TO INCREASE TARRIFF RATES IN RURAL AREAS

Even those sparsely populated rural areas that so worry opponents of privatisation are to get their place in the sun as British Telecommunications Plc looks for more places to make cuts to meet the regulator’s demanding price cap: on Friday it announced that it will expanding its local call charge areas for many rural communities so that from January 12, calls presently charged at the 15 pence for three minutes A rate, and the 25 pence B rate will be charged as local calls at fivepence a minute.
