BT TO BUY 8.5% OF SPANISH CELLULAR OPERATOR, AIRTEL

Banco Santander SA is to enhance British Telecommunications Plc’s presence in Spain by selling an 8.5% stake in cellular operator Airtel to the UK company, reducing the bank’s stake to 5.5%. British Telecom will also buy Santander’s stake in BT Telecommunications SA.
