BT TO BID FOR ITALIAN MOBILE LICENSE

British Telecommunications Plc will put in a bid for the third Italian mobile communications license. The company will bid for the license in a partnership, of which it will hold a majority 26% stake, known as Picinne Italia. Other members will be BNL, Mediaset, Telnor, INA and Italgas. Initially the group will invest 3m pounds, or 8,000bn lire and hopes to break even in 2002.
