Digital Equipment Corp is to be British Telecommunications Plc’s first strategic partner for a new range of corporate intranet services it has planned for the UK, in a deal that is expected to be extended in the future through DEC’s worldwide service organization. The deal follows the deal signed between British Telecom, MCI Communications Corp and Microsoft Corp on November 12 (CI N0 3,042). DEC will offer British Telecom corporate customers a choice of self-build Alpha or Intel-based Web server packages and configured security packages through its firewall systems. DEC already has a deal with MCI to provide intranet services in the US.
