British Telecommunications Plc is rumored to be on the verge of acquiring major European internet service provider Demon Internet Ltd for around $100m, according to the Times of London late last night. The north London-based company which has about 175,000 subscribers, describes itself as the largest independent European ISP. Neither company was available for comment as we went to press. Just last month Demon received an International Simple Resale license from the UK Department of Trade and Industry, which meant it can buy services from British Telecommunications Plc at wholesale rates, as well as transport voice and fax traffic.
