BT SAID TO BACK GTE IN BID FOR MCI

Four leading executives of British Telecommunications Plc have spent the past few days in New York in discussions with GTE Corp about the battle for control of MCI Corp, says the Financial Times. BT are thought to back GTE against the rival bid from WorldCom Corp and may give it financial backing.
