BT GETS IN ON THE VIDEOCONFERENCING ACT

British Telecommunications Plc has launched the VC 5000 series of videoconferencing systems comprising the single screen units, the VC 5110, 5120, 5130 and 5140 and the dual screen units VC 5120, 5220, 5230 and 5240: all units are available with a choice of coder-decoder, operating either at data rates of 64Kbps to 2Mbps or 64Kbps to 128Mbps; available now, the single screen model starts at UKP37,000 and the dual screen from UKP58,000, they are also for hire through BT’s nine videoconferencing centres; the systems are being assembled by GEC Plessey Telecommunications Ltd using Motorola Inc applications-specific circuits, and cameras and monitors sourced from Sony Corp.
