Initiated as part of the ‘IT Development in Healthcare in the Disadvantaged Regions’ project and funded by the EU’s European Regional Development Fund, the project aims to improve the standards of services by managing healthcare procedures more efficiently.
Scheduled for implementation in 2007, the project is expected to deliver a series of benefits to patient communications and associated treatment. BT says the six and a half year contract will see the creation of an inter-institutional system between key healthcare establishments in Southern Transdanubia, Northern Hungary and Northern Plain.
The company envisions that GP’s and hospital staff will eventually have access to patient medical records and X-rays, removing the need for patients to produce their own records and reducing the number of return patient visits. It is also optimistic that the project will broaden the possibilities for new and fast growing areas in healthcare delivery, such as Telemedicine and Tele-radiology.
Csaba Dozsa, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, said, This initiative is a milestone in the modernization process of informatics and administration in Hungarian health care. It will move us to state-of-the-art technology, securing quality of life and a better future for all citizens.
