BT Openreach starts on ambitious plan for 300Mbps internet

Funding provided to local councils for broadband infrastructure

By CBR Staff Writer

BT Openreach is reaching out to apartment owners in a bid to promote its ambitious plans of 300Mbps boradband line that will bring super-fast bandwidth for residents.

Openreach is said to be making all-out efforts to make residents and landlords come together into a pilot project aimed at providing better broadband.

Certain apartments will be chosen on deployment dynamics and cooperation of landloards, and would see a line of up to 300 mbps by the end of the year, according to BT.

The scheme is part of a bigger vision to provide super-fast internet for all UK households by 2014, with monetary estimates going up to £2.5bn.

The UK government is offering monetary support to local councils to help with the finances of the mega-project.

However, the BDUK funding will stand cancelled if there are no contracts in place for the super-fast broadband by the end of the year, according to cultural secretary Jeremy Hunt.

About 1,000 buildings have been spotted for the pilot project.
