Belgium’s Business Software Alliance has been forced to settle for an out-of-court agreement with personal computer dealer and alleged software pirate, Brussels-based Apple Computer dealer CAMI SA that, despite protestations from the software industry group, effectively leaves the company in the clear: according to a statement released by the Alliance, the agreement calls simply for the dismissal of the employee concerned, making no mention of any money paid as compensation; CAMI’s defence argument was precisely that it was not aware of any software copying and so was not responsible as a company; the second company accused by the Belgian Alliance of piracy, Microtraitement SA, a Charleroi-based personal computer dealer, has managed to delay proceedings against it.
