Zenith Electronics Corp is free to negotiate its own destiny following the surprise decision of Brookhurst Partners LP to withdraw its solicitation for consents from shareholders for a proposal to restructure the board of the Chicago computer and consumer electronics company to put its own nominees in a majority. Zenith says discussions with other companies on possible whole or partial sale of its consumer electronics business are continuing. Brookhurst gave no reason for its withdrawal, but is assumed to have got a poor response to its solictitation of consents. It did not say whether it now intended to sell the 6.1% shareholding it has in Zenith.
