Novato, California-based Broderbund Software Inc warns that it expects its fourth-quarter results will be below analysts’ estimates, sending its shares sharply down. The company said revenue is expected to be between 85% and 90% of revenue in the same period last year; net profit is also expected to be below analysts’ estimates. Broderbund skidded $3.625 to $24 in Tuesday morning trading on Nasdaq. Broderbund creates computer software for use in homes, schools and small businesses. The company also expects a net loss in the fourth quarter from the joint venture it has with Random House Inc’s Living Books because of falling sales. The results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year to August 31 are expected to be released on October 9.
