Broderbund Software Inc, itself recently-acquired by The Learning Co Inc, (CI No 3,437), has purchased home design software from Autodesk Inc, for an undisclosed price. Broderbund will assume control of Autodesk’s Picture This Home and Designer’s Vision product lines, as well as the technology and personnel associated with them. It will use the acquisition to solidify what PC Data says is the number one position in the home design software market, with about 40% market share. In addition to the software titles, roughly 45 current Autodesk employees will move over to Broderbund and continue developing the products under the Broderbund name. The deal will be accounted for as a purchase but no financial terms were given.
