Brocade shows off remote data centre DR

Disaster recovery from further afield.

By Amy-Jo Crowley

Networking firm Brocade has introduced a disaster recovery (DR) system, which it claims will help businesses restore data and applications more efficiently.

The DR platform is said to achieve shorter recovery points and faster recovery times when restoring data and applications in the event of a disaster.

In addition, it performs routine backup and replication tasks over "unreliable" wide area network links, according to Brocade.

The product also extends Brocade’s hardware and software offering, dubbed Fabric Vision technology, between data centres that allows administrators to detect WAN anomalies, ensure performance and avoid downtime.

Brocade also added the 7840 Extension Switch into its Gen 5 Fibre Channel SAN portfolio, which it claims delivers double the performance at half the cost when compared to WAN optimisation appliances.

"Managing multiple data centres is inherently complex and time-intensive," said Jack Rondoni, Brocade’s VP of Storage Networking.

"By deploying the Brocade 7840 Extension Switch with enhanced Fabric Vision technology, organisations can create better solutions that meet or exceed their requirements and expectations for faster replication and recovery to achieve always-on operations."

The company also announced a port blade called Brocade FC16-64 for the Brocade DCX 8510 Director, which provides a total system bandwidth of 10.2 TBs and consumes 70% less power in comparison to competitors.

Brocade plans to release the products during this quarter.
