BroadLight, a supplier of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network semiconductors, and Jungo, an NDS Group company and a provider of software products for residential gateways, have integrated Jungo’s OpenRG residential gateway software with BroadLight’s BL2348 GPON System-on-Chip.

The new GPON gateway reference platform reportedly allows service providers to offer their customers broadband access and digital home services over fibre networks.

The companies said that the new platform allows service providers to accelerate the introduction of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services and reduce gateway development costs.

The GPON residential gateway platform from Jungo and Broadlight offers data routing with VoIP, IPv6 support, and virtual private networks with firewalls. The platform also provides support for multiple local area network (LAN) technologies, including ethernet, USB and WiFi.

The BL2348 integrated network processor (NP) combined with the OpenRG middleware’s open, modular architecture allows gateway manufacturers and service providers to bring customised products to the market, the companies said.

Doron Tal, VP of business development and product management at BroadLight, said: Our collaboration with Jungo has produced a versatile platform for the rapid development of cost-effective residential gateways, connecting the high-speed digital home to FTTH services.

Combining the superior flexibility and performance of the BL2348 SoC with Jungo’s field-proven OpenRG gateway middleware enables us to deliver a complete, ready-to-deploy GPON gateway platform for service providers.
