Broadcom, a semiconductor company in the wireless and broadband communication business has completed acquisition of BroadLight, a provider of networking and fiber access PON (Passive Optical Network) processors.
The acquisition will enable Broadcom to offer an end-to-end GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) application for customers, from the optical line terminal (OLT) at the central office to the optical network unit (ONU) at the home.
Combining the Broadcom networking and management software, home networking portfolio and VoIP expertise with the acquistion will provide customers with new product application including a complete portfolio of wireline access products.
The deal will enable BroadLight extend Broadcom’s broadband access to support customer requirements for introducing next-generation fiber networks.
Broadcom Broadband Communications Group executive vice-president and general manager Dan Marotta said the BroadLight acquisition extends its IP and product portfolio with flexible GPON products.
"BroadLight accelerates our time-to-market in GPON, adds important OLT products and technology and enhances our longer-term fiber roadmap," said Marotta.
