Broadcast.com Inc, the Dallas-based aggregator of streaming media on the internet, has struck a deal with The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc, to provide internet broadcasting services for quarterly earnings conference calls for Nasdaq-listed companies. The service will commence as a pilot program in early 1999 for companies in the Nasdaq-100 Index, which will be given the rights to four free web broadcasts per year. The deal represents a chance for some high-profile exposure for Broadcast.com, which will host the calls on co-branded pages within the broadcast.com web site and promote them to its audience – which the company claims comprises about half a million unique visitors daily. In addition, the nasdaq-amex.com site will provide a link to the pages where the calls can be heard live or on-demand. No financial terms of the arrangement were divulged. Following news of the deal, Broadcast.com shares surged 27% to close at $69.75.
