Ringing mobile phones are irritating to say the least – and placed in the wrong context, they can get others very annoyed indeed. Phone ringing in hospitals, restaurants and in cinema and concert halls get the public especially riled. A third of Britons said that ringing mobile phones have at (one point or another) hampered their enjoyment of a public event.

But the Brits are more tolerant of mobiles than in other European countries. Both in Italy and in Finland, over 70% of people were in favour of introducing signal blocking technology in public places such as concert halls and restaurants. The French were one of the least tolerant groups: 85% believe mobile phone blockers should be introduced.
