British Telecommunications Plc subsidiary BT Tymnet Inc, provider of the international value-added network Tymnet, has announced Xlink Express, a family of new, bundled, port-based, synchronous X25 services claimed to offer customers significantly lower cost X25 host access to the Tymnet network. Xlinks are leased line private access port services for X25 interfaces at speeds up to 19.2Kbps and supporting a maximum of 64 virtual circuits. Immediately available in over 175 centres in the US, the Xlink Express service includes port access, leased line, modems, software, and free data transmission on traffic originating from the Xlink interface. As a basic service, Xlink ports use standard X25 default parameters such as a 128Kb packet size, packet window equal to 2, LAPB. Prior to Xlink Express, BT Tymnet claims that customers requiring a 9.6Kbps leased line for standard X25 host communications would typically pay an average monthly rate of $1,500 for their leased line, modems and interface; Xlink customers will be charged a flat monthly rate of $900, which includes all the elements they need to connect their X25 host to the Tymnet network. BT Tymnet has also reduced and bundled service pricing on TymDial X25 private access ports: the new pricing includes the X32/X25 port access, the modem, and kilocharacter transmission originating from the private access ports.
